Introduction
Ministry of Education (MoE), Govt. of India has established ‘MoE’s Innovation Cell (MIC)’ to systematically foster the culture of Innovation among all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The primary mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by supporting them to work with new ideas and transform them into prototypes while they are informative years. MIC has envisioned encouraging creation of ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs) across selected HEIs. A network of IICs are established to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion ecosystem in the campuses. MIC has established Institution’s Innovation Council in more than 2200 Instiutions till November 2020.
Vision
To enhance the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship by creating lively indigenous innovation ecosystem leading to successful start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures promoted and owned by faculties and students.
Mission
To develop an entrepreneurial ecosystem with required resources that can enable students and faculty to ideate, innovate, prototyping, planning business, commercializing the product, iterating the product, creating viable start-ups and building successful entrepreneurs.
Major Focus of IIC:
To create a vibrant local innovation ecosystem. Start-up supporting Mechanism in HEIs. Prepare institute for Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements Framework. Establish Function Ecosystem for Scouting Ideas and Pre-incubation of Ideas. Develop better Cognitive Ability for Technology Students.
Function
- To conduct various innovation and entrepreneurship-related activities prescribed by Central MIC in time bound fashion.
- To identify and reward innovations and share success stories.
- To organize periodic workshops/ seminars/ interactions with entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and create a mentor pool for student innovators.
- To network with peers and national entrepreneurship development organizations.
- To create an Institution’s Innovation portal to highlight innovative projects carried out by institution’s faculty and students.
- To organize Hackathons, idea competition, mini-challenges etc. with the involvement of industries.
OBJECTIVES
- To encourage the creativity of the student to work on new ideas and innovation
- To identify and develop students to transform them to start ups
- To promote the students to create start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures.
- To provide opportunities to the students and faculties to participate in various Innovation related initiatives and competitions organized from institution level to international level.
- To have meetings and interactions with renowned Entrepreneurs/Start Up Founders and Co-Founders/ Business Leaders and top-notch academicians.
- To provide opportunity to nurture new ideas.
- To provide mentoring by industry Professionals.
- To provide support for experiment with new technologies.
- To provide support for prototype and Business Plan, Pitch Deck of the Plan.
- To provide support for angel investors.
- To provide support for market research for product validation and valuation.
