Green Campus Initiatives
INTRODUCTION
There are many different ways that an institute can implement green campus initiatives. Institutes can also implement green campus initiatives by adopting sustainable procurement practices, such as purchasing recycled and energy-efficient products. Here are a few examples:
- Energy conservation: This could include measures such as installing energy-efficient appliances and lighting, using renewable energy sources, and reducing energy consumption in buildings.
- Water conservation: Installing low-flow toilets and faucets, collecting rainwater, and recycling wastewater.
- Waste management: Reducing waste generation, recycling and composting, and properly disposing of hazardous waste.
- Transportation: Encouraging students and staff to walk, bike, or take public transportation, and providing electric vehicle charging stations.
- Food and dining: Serving local and sustainable food, reducing food waste, and composting food scraps.
- Landscaping: Planting native plants, using drought-tolerant plants, and reducing pesticide use.
- Education and outreach: Providing education to students and staff about environmental issues, engaging in community service projects, and hosting sustainability events.
