AIM
In accordance with the revised UGC Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes, the Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) programme w.e.f. academic session 2024-25 curriculum framework shall be as follows:
The B.Com (Hons.) programme covers fundamental to advanced concepts in Commerce, Finance, and Business Management. The blend of theoretical knowledge through classroom teaching and practical exposure through case studies, internships, and industry-driven projects enhances student’s analytical and problem-solving skills. With the acquired expertise, students can effectively contribute to business decision-making, financial analysis, entrepreneurship, and corporate leadership in a dynamic economic environment.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The students are required to refer to the eligibility criteria provided in the admission brochure for the B.Com (Hons.) programme for the specific academic session. As per the Admission Brochure for Academic Session (AS) 2024-25, the eligibility criteria for the B.Com (Hons.) programme is as follows:
“Pass in 12th Class of 10+2 of CBSE or equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate with a pass in English (core or elective or functional) along with four elective subjects.”
OR
“Pre-University Examination (Two years after ten years of schooling) of an Indian school/college.”
OR
“Intermediate Examination of an Indian University/Board or an examination recognized as equivalent to that, with a pass in five written subjects.”
OR
“Indian School Certificate Examination (12 years) conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi, with a pass in five written subjects.”
OR
“Examination of a foreign University/Board which is recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 CBSE examination or an Indian University.”
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
In accordance with the UGC Curriculum and Credit Framework and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the B.Com (Hons.) program offers entry and exit options to provide flexibility in higher education. Students who exit at any stage can re-enter within a maximum period of 3 years to complete the degree, ensuring the total duration does not exceed 7 years. Internships, industry projects, and research dissertations are integrated into the curriculum to enhance practical exposure. The Research Component in the 4th year (for B.Com Hons. with Research) includes a thesis/dissertation evaluated through a viva-voce. This multi-exit and re-entry framework ensures flexibility, industry readiness, and academic progression for students pursuing the B.Com (Hons.) program.

VOCATIONAL COURSES
SUMMER INTERNSHIP
Students are required to undertake summer internships with industries, businesses, financial institutions, government agencies, or research organizations. Internships can also be pursued under faculty guidance within their own or other Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs).
Duration & Timeline:
- The internship will be conducted at the end of the 4th semester, and its evaluation will take place in the 5th semester.
- The duration of the internship should be at least 8 weeks during the summer break.
Internship Report & Evaluation:
- Upon completion of the internship, students must submit a detailed internship report to their respective college/institution.
- A Viva-Voce examination will be conducted based on the report submitted by the student.
- Evaluation Criteria:
- Internal Assessment (40 Marks): Conducted by a panel appointed by the HOD/Director of the Institution.
- External Evaluation (60 Marks): Conducted by the Examination Division of the University.
The internship is designed to provide students with practical exposure, industry engagement, and professional skills development, enhancing their employability and career readiness.
Generic (Open) Electives for other undergraduate programmes
Major / Minor Project
Objective:
The minor project is aimed at developing research aptitude, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills among students by engaging them in real-world business, financial, or economic problems.
Guidelines:
- The project must be conducted individually or in small groups under faculty supervision.
- The topic should be related to core commerce disciplines such as accounting, finance, banking, taxation, investment analysis, marketing, or entrepreneurship.
- The project should involve data collection, analysis, and recommendations using appropriate research methodologies.
- A presentation and viva-voce will be conducted for project evaluation.
Evaluation Criteria:
- Project Report (40 Marks): Quality of research, methodology, and analysis.
- Presentation & Viva-Voce (60 Marks): Clarity of concepts, findings, and practical implications.
Research Dissertation (For 4-Year B.Com (Hons.) with Research)
Objective:
The dissertation is a mandatory research component for students opting for the 4-Year B.Com (Hons.) with Research program. It aims to develop student’s ability to conduct independent research in commerce, finance, or management.
Guidelines:
- Students must select a research topic in consultation with their faculty mentor.
- The dissertation must involve problem identification, literature review, data collection, statistical analysis, and findings.
- Research should be conducted using qualitative and quantitative methods, applying the latest financial and economic tools and techniques.
- Students must submit a formal research thesis, which will be evaluated through a viva-voce examination.
Evaluation Criteria:
- Thesis Report (50 Marks): Quality of research, clarity of objectives, depth of analysis, and presentation.
- Presentation & Viva-Voce (50 Marks): Justification of research methodology, data interpretation, and conclusions.
The dissertation will serve as an essential requirement for students aiming for higher studies, research opportunities, and academic careers.
These guidelines ensure that students in the B.Com (Hons.) program gain experiential learning, industry exposure, and research capabilities, aligning with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and UGC’s Curriculum and Credit Framework.
