PRESS & MEDIA CLUB

INTRODUCTION

 Press and Media Club students are supposed to engage with the media activities and to help students to perform the activities which would help them to increase their understanding of Mass Media. Mass Media as we know includes variety of vehicles like Newspaper, Magazine, New media etc. which are used to communicate with the masses. These are in fact the mode of delivery of messages and are used for effective communication. Communication with the masses is very important as it involves a very large number of people but communication with the self, with our friends and relatives, with public is equally important. Hence the activities of the Press & Media Club would begin with activities based on communication followed by the activities mentioned below:

Activities

  • Reporting on different beats like, cultural, education, sports, political, entertainment, crime etc. 
  • Students will prepare news content for Monthly Bilingual Newspaper “Youngster”. 
  • Students will prepare press releases for different activities. 
  • Students will organize creative writing & media quiz competition.  
 

Media Advocacy

  • Press and Media Club In charge along with students will track the content of media both print and electronic and initiate debate and discussion on various issues highlighted in the media.
  •  Letter to editors and mails regarding this may be sent to the concerned media houses

Media Club on Facebook

  • The Press and Media Club will invite students to join the media club on facebook where they can share their experiences with others.
  • This will be platform wherein Press and Media Club coordinators & members will exchange information and explore more possibilities and opportunities.
 

Interface with Media

  • This is the platform through which members of media club will get an opportunity to interact with the experts from media and media education.
  • Press and Media Club may organize talk by various media personalities.
  • Press and Media Club will encourage students to participate in mainstream media by writing letters or by joining some socially relevant campaigns initiated by the media.
 

Objectives

  • To nurture and motivates the creativity of students.
  • To inculcate writing skills in students.
  • To contribute towards knowledge generation and dissemination.
  • To develop among students an understanding of the effects of mass media they need to understand their own media habits which includes what they are watching, reading and listening and how media content influence them.
  • The Press and Media Club In charge along with the club students will analyze the data to see the trend regarding media habits of students.
  • To develop skills to encourage the production of creative media messages.
  • To encourage students to express their feelings and thoughts through media message they  produce
 

Learning outcome

There are several benefits to joining press and media club. Participating in Press and Media Club allows budding media professionals to have contact with others who are interested in writing news, press releases, report and understand the challenges of being media professional. Members of press and media club receive constructive criticism from their fellow writers so that they can learn how to polish the piece and make it stronger.
